In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization, more commonly known in the fertility world by the acronym IVF, is an alternative reproduction option that assists an intended or surrogate mother in becoming pregnant. A healthy, viable egg is placed in a petri dish, and thousands of motile sperm are then introduced into the petri dish in the hopes of fertilizing the egg.

If successful, the fertilized embryo will then be inserted into the uterus so the embryo can implant itself into the uterine wall, thus achieving a pregnancy. Couples or individuals who have had difficulty conceiving or are otherwise unable to become pregnant without third-party reproductive options will often turn to IVF to achieve their dream of expanding their family.

Embryo and Egg Donation

When working with Baby Steps Surrogacy Center, Inc. to achieve pregnancy through a surrogate, embryo and egg donation may play a part in the success of the IVF procedure your surrogate mother undergoes.

At Reproductive Health Specialists PA, they specialize in third-party reproduction, including embryo and egg donation. Embryo donation often occurs when a couple who has completed their family donates their remaining embryos for use by surrogates or couples.

In egg donation, a woman will undergo an egg retrieval procedure thirty-six hours after receiving a trigger injection so her eggs can be suctioned out of her ovarian follicle. Women who are interested in donating their eggs will need to meet very specific criteria, including being free from infectious diseases, under the age of 33, a nonsmoker, and in overall good health.
