Journey of a Rainbow Baby

Journey of a Rainbow Baby

Just like rainbows come after storms, rainbow babies come after an incredibly difficult time in hopeful parents’ lives. Our surrogacy agency is here to help you have your rainbow baby through surrogacy.

Losing someone you love is never easy, but losing a baby to miscarriage or stillbirth is absolutely devastating and traumatic. Women who find out that they can’t carry a healthy, full-term pregnancy without loss often find themselves looking into other ways of making their dreams come true.

Below, we discuss how the trauma of such loss can impact your life, how having your rainbow baby in your arms can be healing, and the ways we screen potential surrogate mothers to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy and complete the journey of your rainbow baby.

The Trauma of Losing a Baby

There is arguably nothing worse than your baby passing away, and the grief that you’ve experienced can feel insurmountable.

To think that you’ll never be able to hold a baby of your own in your arms and watch them grow up is heartbreaking. But all hope is not lost. Many grieving parents in your position have found hope through surrogacy.

Your Rainbow Baby: What Comes After the Storm

These days, there are other options out there for completing your family, such as adoption and surrogacy. If you want to have the opportunity to be the biological parent of your child, surrogacy is likely the best of those routes to take. In surrogacy, a woman carries a child for a family who is unable to do so themselves. There are a couple of different types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational.

In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother will undergo an intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure, in which her eggs will be fertilized with the sperm of the intended father or a sperm donor.

Gestational surrogacy requires in vitro fertilization (IVF), in which the surrogate mother will be impregnated with an embryo that can be fertilized with the eggs and sperm of the intended parents or with donor eggs and sperm. In either case, the surrogate mother will carry your unborn baby for you so you can finally hold your baby in your arms.

Your rainbow baby could be well on their way to you if you move forward with a surrogacy arrangement. Although your rainbow baby will never take the place of the baby you lost, they can embody the idea that there is light after darkness. You don’t have to give up your dream of raising a family—your rainbow is waiting.

Ensuring the Health of Your Surrogate

Trusting someone else to carry your baby after you’ve experienced the loss of a baby can be challenging, if not impossible. With this in mind, at our international surrogacy center, we complete thorough screenings of each and every potential surrogate before they are matched with a family. The surrogate mother will need to meet very specific criteria, including the following:

  • Being a non-smoker
  • Being of healthy childbearing age
  • Having a healthy body weight
  • Abstaining from excessive alcohol use
  • Not taking certain antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications
  • Being willing to undergo extensive mental health evaluations
  • Having completed at least one healthy, full-term pregnancy, labor, and delivery with no complications
  • Having no history of postpartum depression
  • Having her own transportation

These are just a few of the many requirements your surrogate will need to meet. Every potential surrogate needs to meet every requirement to qualify. This promotes the optimal chance of both the surrogate mother and the unborn baby being healthy and going through pregnancy, labor, and delivery as safely as possible.
